Maintaining the Integrity of Votes for Ranking Boards

It's in the interest of users across the globe that reputational rankings on Rank The Globe™ should be represented as accurately as possible. Lacking accuracy, the ranking boards will lose much of their utility to users looking for such information as the "best or worst places to travel"; "the best or worst schools to attend"; "the best or worst companies or products by industry"; and so on.

In light of this, Rank The Globe™ has preemptively implemented a number of safeguards and procedures to protect vote integrity, including:

  1. Vote tracking: No user should be able to vote twice or multiple times on the same rank item.
  2. Denying the ability to edit or modify already published rank items: Assume a user created a rank item named "Apple", and then another item named "Banana". Over time the votes on either rank item may accumulate as users around the globe participate. Now if the user decided to switch the names of "Apple" and "Banana" around or change "Apple" to something nonsensical like "Car" and so distort the votes, the user will be prevented from doing so. This applies equally to authors and contributors.
  3. Pattern Detection: Detect any activity that abuses the vote integrity through other illicit means such as abusing Rank The Globe™ account registration, etc. Users who are found to abuse vote integrity may be suspended.
